Entertainment zone okay
published: Wednesday | October 22, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

What is so controversial about Minister Grange wanting to set up an entertainment zone? It's a welcome and much-deserved thought, which I hope is executed. The urban planners have long established industrial, light commercial and residential zones; then why not an entertainment zone?

Entertainment forms the backbone of the country's culture, and together they have continued to contribute, both directly and indirectly, to every sector of this economy, so let's stop treating it like the 'bastard child'.

I concur with the call to locate it downtown. In fact, let's make it part of the area's revitalisation project. Minister, please don't stop at Kingston and St Andrew, as the tendency is to think that 'town' is everything. Rather, examine potential spaces within the other parishes as well. After all, 'country' people 'waan' party too!

I am, etc,
