When Ezmon Daley walked towards the platform during The Gleaner Company's annual long-service awards function at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St Andrew, yesterday, his colleagues and guests joined in a standing ovation as they saluted his 45 years of dedicated service to the newspaper.
Daley was one of 33 employees who were honoured at the function.
Still enjoying the job
Daley, who joined the company's circulation department in 1963, said when he started his sojourn times were hard and, even now when it has become harder, he still enjoys his job. "I have just held on to the job. I have nothing to complain about."
His story is one of loyalty and commitment to the job, which yesterday's keynote speaker, Police Commissioner Hardley Lewin, indicated was rare in today's organisations.
With a total of 670 years of service among them, the honourees were lauded by Gleaner chairman and managing director, Oliver Clarke, who pointed out that the workers at the 174-year-old institution remain the newspaper's greatest assets.
