Looters add to storm woes
published: Friday | August 29, 2008

Looters raided at least one business place in Portland yesterday, while residents were sheltering from the strong winds and heavy rains associated with Tropical Storm Gustav.

While stranded at a gas station in Long Bay, Portland, a Gleaner team witnessed several people entering the business place located next door.

For approximately 15 minutes, men and women, including the elderly, went in and out of the building, which had already lost its roof, leaving with disposable diapers, a variety of beverages in crates, furniture, other food items in black plastic bags, along with empty bottles.

The line of people entering the building only ended when the store had been emptied of its contents.
