THE EDITOR, Sir:
JAMAICANS ABROAD are very proud of the Jamaican athletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. What a scintillating run by Bolt and the girls - Shelly-Ann Fraser, Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart! We are, however, disappointed with the coverage we get of the Olympics and at this time, feeling like we have been cheated and want to come home to share in the celebration, joy and passion of being a Jamaican.
Unfair coverage
We have not seen most of the track events that do not include Americans or Canadians. The events in which Jamaica has done well have been broadcast in delayed coverage.
In essence, we have not seen a fair coverage of the Olympics and sometimes wondered if Jamaica is at the Olympics. We have seen too much of Michael Phelps and the Canadian failures. I have searched the Internet like crazy to see Jamaica in the heats, semi-finals and finals. Can you imagine not seeing the 100m finals in real time? It is devastating and Jamaicans abroad will miss the Olympics if we do not have a souvenir.
I call on TVJ and CVM to make a DVD of Jamaica's participation in the Olympics so that we can have it as a treasure for all times and watch these memorable historic moments. We can show it to our kids and use it to motivate them. Please grant us this opportunity to share in this joyous moment.
I am, etc.,
