Call for a Jamaica Day
published: Tuesday | August 19, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FIRST, LET me congratulate all the athletes who are participating in the Olympics in Beijing, China. They have done themselves, their families and their country very, very proud. Despite all the crime and violence that is overshadowing us, we have something positive to celebrate.

I have a suggestion for the prime minister. I think we should have a day called 'Jamaica Day', where every Jamaican wears the colours of the Jamaican flag. I think this would be more effective than a public holiday. Can you imagine how beautiful we would look as a country going to work, school, etc, in our colours? Wow! Please, Mr Golding, think about this. I'm sure the athletes will be very grateful.

Support Asafa

Asafa Powell did not medal in the 100m event and many are saying how disappointed they are. I know that he is also disappointed with himself because he wanted to get the gold medal. We should support him now more than ever. He has made us proud before, so instead of bashing him, let us say positive things about him because words do hurt.

I am, etc.,
