A cast of Jamaica's finest actors will light up the stage this summer in Aston Cooke's much anticipated all new satirical revue,
Pupalick, scheduled to open on Emancipation Day, Friday, August 1, at the Pantry Playhouse.
Directed by Michael 'Stringbeans' Nicholson, Pupalick boasts an outstanding cast, which includes the 2007 Best Actress Dahlia Harris, Comedy Buss creator Christopher (Johnny) Daley, Actor Boy awardee Christopher McFarlane, Everaldo Creary - fresh from his movie debut in Better Mus' Come, along with the effervescent Zandriann Maye and Camille Wilson.
Mirroring Jamaica's funniest
Pupalick comes from the Jamaica 2 Rahtid series, and will provide the usual laughter and plenty 'bangarang'. According to playwright Cooke, "Pupalick is a high-energy and fun-filled satire for the entire family which will mirror Jamaicans at their best, worst, nicest, sweetest and funniest".
Pupalick is an all new hilarious socio-political musical revue - a potpourri of colourful Jamaican characters, presented in a creative collection of 24 sketches and songs covering a wide range of topical social, cultural and political issues of the time.
Cooke's satirical pen touches on topics such as the Cuban bulb scandal, Cash Plus, Jamaican talk shows, dual citizenship, elections, the political parties and their colourful leaders.
Great music in store
First staged in July 2005, the original Jamaica 2 Rahtid played to appreciative audiences across Jamaica, the Caribbean and the United States. In September 2006, the production represented Jamaica at the ninth staging of CARIFESTA held in Trinidad and Tobago. In 2006, the play walked off with four national Actor Boy awards for best comedy, best revue, best musical score and best song.
The awesome musician Grub Cooper of the Fab 5 band has created seven brand new musical numbers for Pupalick. Veteran choreographer Barbara McDaniel joins the team this year to stage the movement for the musical numbers. McDaniel is artis-tic director of Dance Theatre Xay-maca and Wolmer's Dance Troupe.
Following the gala performance at the Pantry Playhouse on Emancipation Day at 8:30 pm, Pupalick will play Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. with matinee performances on Sundays at 6 p.m.
