West Indies aiming to level series in Grenada
published: Friday | June 27, 2008

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC):

ENCOURAGED BY the availability of their entire injury-hit squad, the West Indies are aiming to level the Digicel one-day series against Australia when the second match bowls off at the Queen's Park Stadium today.

After a spate of injuries since the end of the Test series, the West Indies, despite some players still nursing minor niggles, were heartened with the news that key batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul is poised to make a return and opener Xavier Marshall has been passed fit to play. Chanderpaul missed the first ODI and the Twenty20 International with a calf injury, while Marshall sustained a shoulder injury in the field during the first ODI on Tuesday.

Despite the availability of the full 14-man squad, not everyone was fully fit, according to captain Chris Gayle.

"The majority of the senior players are carrying injuries. Not everybody is 100 per cent," Gayle said yesterday. "(Ramnaresh) Sarwan wasn't even supposed to play in the last game, but he stuck it out and gave it his all."
