Nelson ... suffered another setback. - File
JOCKEY Dane Nelson's bid for a shot at the jockeys' title suffered another setback on Tuesday when the Jamaica Racing Commission's (JRC) stewards hit him with a two-day ban.
Nelson, who recently parted ways with champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, was suspended for two racedays for interference caused to GRACE MARIE in the last 300 metres while aboard CHADMAN in the seventh race on Saturday, May 31. His ban will take effect on Wednesday, July 2.
Dented his champs' chances
Nelson is on 54 wins in third place, 14 behind champion jockey Omar Walker, and the suspension, following him severing ties with DaCosta, has all but dented his chances of winning his first riders' title at Caymanas Park.
Meanwhile, Javour Simpson, is set to go off on a three-day suspension, starting this Saturday.
Simpson, who rode SOY MUJER in the fifth race on Saturday, June 7, was suspended and fined $3,000 for interference caused to SONNY'B'GOOD and MEDICAL ACCOUNT from the 300 to 200-metre point.
In another disciplinary action announced by the JRC, jockey Phillip Clunis, who rode HAIL THE GENIUS, in the sixth race on Saturday, was fined $3,000 for excessive use of his whip.
