Adventists to break ground for wellness centre
published: Friday | June 27, 2008

Groundbreaking for the erection of a convention and wellness centre in the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists will take place on Sunday in Drax Hall, St Ann.

The facility is in keeping with the strategic issue of healthy lifestyle, a concept advocated by the Adventist Church for many years.

"We recognised that there is a need to have a wellness centre in this part of the island," said Pastor Michael Harvey, president of the North Jamaica Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. "The community and our church will benefit from such a facility, which will enable us to cater to the total well-being of the individual under one cover."

Needs assessment

The construction of the centre will meet the needs of the community through its daycare, gym and other facilities. Also, based on the needs assessment done by the church, a single venue that could comfortably house large groups of persons for conventions, concerts and other social events would be timely.

Corporate Jamaica, Government, members of the church and others are invited to be partners in the venture, which will, in turn, improve the health and well-being, not just of the community, but of the society at large.

Further details of the plan will be outlined at the groundbreaking ceremony which will begin at 2:30 p.m.
