Caribbean Fashionweek will, this year, showcase an assortment of jewellery and accessories made by the region's top designers.
The diverse array of items provided by Marva Forde of Navazoe Jewellery from Trinidad; Anjela Went of Angelique Custom Creations; Leandra and Craig Springer of Nine One Designs from Barbados; Bridget Brown of Bridget Sandals, and Marcellas James of Cinderella Hats from Jamaica, will please everyone's taste.
CFW regular Bridget Brown of Bridget Sandals describes the role of accessories in the CFW collections as pivotal: "Accessories certainly add an element of pizzazz to outfits. They give it that ooh la la effect." She describes her sandals as 'ornaments for the feet'. The original and unique Caribbean designs, made from materials such as snakeskin, nappa leather and imported fabrics, are like pieces of art.
Accessory designers are also putting a new twist on the most conventional of styles. Marcellas James has taken her designs above and beyond the usual hat for church on Sunday to position Cinderella Hats as the company known for intricate and unusual designs.
First-time participants Navazoe Jewellery and Angelique Custom Creations will all ensure that the runway sparkles with their eclectic jewellery made from natural materials to semi-precious stones and gold.
Galaxy of celebrities
The show will take place at the National Indoor Sports Centre, June 11-16. Stylists will be joined by a galaxy of celebrities and international personalities, making CFW 2008 a strong contender for Jamaica's event of the year.
CFW is presented by Pulse, in association with: The Gleaner, Audi, Smirnoff, Fashion TV, Paris, Viva Sparkling Water, Nestlé's Fitnesse Cereal, the BIDC, Invest Barbados, The Jamaica Tourist Board, The Hilton, Courtleigh and Knutsford Court hotels, Nestlé Supligen, Zip 103 FM, CVM TV, Ocean Style, She Caribbean, Jamrock magazine, Hype TV and several other sponsors to be announced.
