Portmore Missionary retain crown

Defending champions Portmore Missionary (One) retained the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/Oliver's Decorating & Manufacturing Prep schools title, with a 3-2 victory over former champions Sts Peter & Paul on Tuesday at the High Performance Training Centre at the University of Technology.

Portmore Missionary (Two) edged Vaz Prep 3-2 for third place.

Individual champions

Chelsea Durrant of Portmore Missionary and Ricardo Mills of Vaz were crowned individual boy's and girls' champions, respectively.

In the team final, Sts Peter and Paul won the first two matches to take a 2-0 lead. However, these turned out to be consolation wins as Portmore Missionary won the next three.

Their victory journey started in the third match, the girls match, when Durrant trounced Toni-Ann Tapper 11-6, 14-12, 11-3 (3-0).

Secure the win

In the fourth, Jordon Collington crushed Sean White 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 (3-0), with national cadet player Korey Moulton overpowering Vincent Zhong 11-4, 11-9, 11-9 (3-0) to clinch match number five and secure the win for Portmore Missionary.

Sts Peter & Paul's Julius Raebel defeated Chadayne Walker 13-11, 11-6, 11-8 (3-0) and Derek Walcott stopped Franz Arnold Jr 8-11, 13-11, 11-5, 11-5 (3-1) to secure their team's two consolation wins.

In the girls' singles final, Durrant whipped national cadet player Daneika Lawrence 9-11,10-12, 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 (3-2) to take the crown. Dawson crushed McLaughlin 3-0 to win the third place.

Mills edged Portmore Missionary's Jordon Collington 11-13, 11-6, 12-10, 10-12, 11-7 (3-2) in the boys' singles final.
