Hydel Prep establish big lead on champs day two

Defending champions Hydel are on course to retain their Prep Schools Track and field title, this after they ended day two of the three-day championships with a 20-point lead at the National Stadium, yesterday.

After seven finals, Hydel lead the standings with 57 points, followed by Quest on 37, Vaz 32.5, Our Lady of the Angels 26.5 and Wolmer's 22.5. Hydel also lead both the male and female team sections, respectively. They lead the male standings with 23 points, followed by Portmore Missionary (18.5), Quest 16, Vaz 11.5 and Our Lady of the Angles 9.5.

They are ahead in the female category with 34 points, followed by Vaz 25, Wolmer's 22.5, Quest 21 and Our Lady of the Angles 17.

Hydel also accounted for the first two records of the meet, both of which were broken yesterday.

Javier O'Gilvie established a new mark in the boys Class One long jump when he leapt 5.44m to erase the previous mark of 5.39m.

Hakeem Lewis of Covenant Christian was second with 5.31m, and Shimon Spence of Mavisville third, having soared to 5.23m.

Samara Spencer set a new mark in the girls' Class One high with a leap of 1.53m. Our Lady of the Angles pair - Donieke Daniel (1.50m) and Aisha Nelson (1.45m) - finished second and third, respectively.

Chelsea Harley of Quest won the girls' Class Two high jump, clearing 1.32m, while Ardenne's Billie-Jean Ferguson (1.25m) and O'Kailia Blair of Wolmer's (1.25m) were second and third, respectively.

Twenty-eight finals will be contested on today's final day.
