Bahamas unable to host Reggae Boyz
published: Tuesday | April 22, 2008

NASSAU, Bahamas (CMC):

The Bahamas will surrender their right to stage a leg of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifier against Jamaica in June because of unfit facilities, the Nassau Guar-dian newspaper has reported.

The report says The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) will give up their leg because both their venues, the Centre of Excellence and Thomas Robinson Stadium are unable to stage the game. The Centre of Excellence ground has issues of inadequate seating capacity.

Jamaica and The Bahamas are set to meet in Jamaica on June 15 in the first-leg of the next stage of CONCACAF qualifying for 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa.

Venue problems

The Bahamas had been assigned the second leg fixture on June 21 or 22, but their venue problems will now see the Jamaicans also staging the second leg.

The BFA was reportedly made aware of the seating problems before hosting the previous stage of the qualifying competition against the British Virgin Islands (BVI), the Guardian said, but the report added that the hosting of the two matches against the BVI was only approved because the "crowd response in The Bahamas would not have been that great at the game".
