Churches and casinos
published: Tuesday | April 22, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Your Sunday lead story included the expressed negative attitude of some churches to casino gambling.

The question that arises, therefore, is what is the difference between the current crop of 'gaming lounges' and casinos?

In my book, there are only two: the gaming lounges which not as large and do not offer great entertainment that casinos do and, second and more important, whereas casinos provide employment for humans (dealers, entertainers, etc), the gaming lounges offer basically the exact same gambling options with the significant difference being they are all mechanical!

scandalous

It, therefore, follows that if churches are against the introduction of casinos, since they never expressed any objection to gaming lounges, their only motive could be that they are against creating employment for Jamaican people! This to me would be scandalous.

I am, etc.,
