WATERHOUSE SLIPPED by August Town 1-0 to book their spot in the semi-finals of the COK Champions Cup at the Drewsland Stadium on Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first half, left-back Garfield Reid secured the all-important goal for Waterhouse in the 52nd minute, after being presented with a sitter 10 yards away from goal. A Kirk Ramsey cross forced a pressured August Town custodian Devon Haughton to punch away, but the attempt only went as far as the boot of an unmarked Reid, who did not hesitate to blast the ball into the back the net. However, despite the win, Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough expressed concerns about his team's ability to put away chances.
"We are still missing too many opportunities. We have been paying close attention to that in training but we still haven't got it right," Fairclough said.
Tactically disobedient
1You couldn't have asked for a better example of not getting finishing right than Leon Strickland's 69th-minute attempt which could have put Waterhouse another goal to the good.
Sprinting to goal, Ricardo Fletcher brought down a cross out of midfield before crossing the ball along the ground into the path of Strickland. However, no more than four yards away from goal, the striker managed to sidefoot the attempt over the target.
August Town were also guilty of woeful finishing could have found themselves level in injury time when striker Mitchly Waul timed his run precisely to break free of the Waterhouse backline. Bearing down on goal, albeit from a tough angle, Waul drove his shot straight at Waterhouse 'keeper Richard McCallum.
"I know with better finishing today we could have won this game, the forwards just weren't on." said August Town coach Dominic Spaulding.
