VILLAGE UNITED scored an impressive 4-1 victory over Humble Lion in their COK Champions Cup quarter-final at York Town Community Centre on Wednesday.
Both teams played quality football before the eyes of Jamaica technical director Rene Simoes.
Humble Lion claimed the lead in the fifth minute when Kevin Mighty headed a ball from a cross into Village's goal area and past custodian Elvis Hart.
Village drew level four minutes later after they received a free kick on the edge of the Lion's box and the kick deflected past Humble Lion 'keeper Desmond McCallum. Devron Clarke was awarded the goal.
Village were then awarded a penalty in the 21st minute after Lion defender Dion Sterling denied them a goal-scoring opportunity with his hand.
Red card
Sterling was given a red card by the referee and Troy Smith scored from the penalty spot.
With the man advantage, Village exerted more pressure and scored their third goal on the brink of the halftime when Ricardo Reid tapped an easy ball past McCallum.
Both teams came out in earnest after the break and although trailing by two goals, Humble Lion created some good goalscoring opportunities but poor finishing prevented cost them.
Village sealed victory in the 84th minute when Omar Allen went into the Humble Lions' goal area and pushed an easy ball through the legs of McCallum.
