Robert Cerasoli, head of the Office of the Inspector General of the City New Orleans, will be in Jamaica from April 14-16 to discuss ethics, corruption and governance issues.

His three-day visit is sponsored by the United States Department of State and facilitated by the US Embassy's Public Affairs Section.

Cerasoli, who has been inspector general since September 2007, is responsible for establishing a full-time programme of investigation, inspection and performance review to provide increased accountability and oversight of the city government entities and is empowered to prevent and detect fraud, abuse and illegal acts.

Key presenter at workshop

During his visit, Cerasoli will be the key presenter at a public sector workshop being held under the theme, 'Ethics in Governance: Restoring the Public Trust' at the US Embassy on April 15.

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Auditor General's Department, the Office of the Prime Minister, among other government agencies, are expected to participate.

He is also slated to address students, faculty members of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, local police and other groups at a forum to be held at the Northern Caribbean University campus in Mandeville on April 14.

Cerasoli profile

Cerasoli has served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Association of Inspectors General since 2004 and is a founding member of the Ethics Section of the American Society for Public Administration.
