Symphonic highs & lows

Although the mood at Symphony Under the Stars was dreary, when Chalice took the stage even the former education minister, Maxine Henry-Wilson got 'jiggy with it'.

Patrons packed the lawns of the Cable and Wireless Golf Academy in New Kingston last Saturday for an evening of music. Women came clad in little dresses, while men sported jeans and dress shirts topped off with blazers. Everyone looked absolutely gorgeous.

After the much-anticipated wait for Roberta Flack, when she came on she actually 'flopped'. Throughout her second song, Killing Me Softly, patrons sang along with her.

But by her fourth piece she seemed to have disconnected with the crowd. She sat at the piano singing to young musical partner, Tony Perry, or so it seemed, because her back was slightly turned to the audience. And by 20 minutes into the performance some patrons started to leave.

However, the night was not a total loss because A.J. Brown, Chalice and LUST did a superb job. And, of course, the orchestra led by Jon Williams also gave a stunning performance.

Hot mamma! Tamika Peru is sizzling.
