The Editor, Sir:It has long been appreciated that alternate energy sources will greatly mitigate current economic problems not only in Jamaica but globally. In this regard, United States is focusing on reducing dependency on oil which is virtually controlled by OPEC.
From a documentary I watched, Germany is placing much reliance on the harnessing of wind energy. We have taken a feeble attempt. I know that we do not have the resources on hand to walk the German walk, but I always believed that all resources are mobilised and generated by what is between our ears.
I humbly suggest that we research the effort of the Germans, and as Europeans are always wisely seeking economically defensible foreign investments, we are likely to find Germany having an interest in financing the replication of their efforts here, where the environment would be far more suited for generation by wind energy; of course the economies of scale will have to be factored in any feasibility study and consideration.
I cannot rule out solar energy and the Asafa Powells of our local and exported technocrats, and for that matter from anywhere on this planet for serious consideration.
Let's face it, we just cannot afford to pay current and future oil bills and for environmental impact; and so we must return to that space between our ears not just for survival but for prosperity.
My thinking is that we can think and grow rich, or think and grow poor, and if man can put man on the moon, we can find substitutes.
