Adventists to baptise 1,000 at Arena
published: Friday | March 14, 2008

ALLEN

Come tomorrow morning, Seventh-day Adventists across Jamaica and the rest of the West Indies Union Conference will gather for the final day of the annual 'Pentecost and More' evangelistic crusade.

The six-week campaign will climax in a massive baptism of some 3,000 individuals from the West Indies Union Conference, which comprises Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands.

Approximately 1,000 individuals will be baptised at the National Arena in St Andrew tomorrow morning.

"We've been planning for 'Pentecost and More' for the past six months," said Pastor Dr Patrick Allen, president of the West Indies Union. "We've prepared, prayed and now we are excited about the event."

Allen said the experience was to be a re-enactment of the 'Day of Pentecost', in Acts Chapter Two, which took place in AD34 in Jerusalem where some 3,000 persons were baptised in a single day.

"We are expecting an outpouring of the Holy Spirit not only throughout Jamaica, but also throughout the entire division," said Allen.

Pastor Israel Leito, president of the Adventist Church in Inter-America, is expected to present the main address. The event will also be televised by satellite to congregations in the union.
