AFTER BEING stung by defeats at the weekend, defending champions Harbour View and previous leaders Seba United bounce right back into action against each other at Jarrett Park in rescheduled Cash Plus Premier League action today.
The match was not played when scheduled because Harbour View, the eventual winners, were engaged in the Caribbean Club Championships in Trinidad and Tobago along with Portmore United. Portmore United will also be in action today against August Town at Ferdie Neita Park in a 3:00 p.m. fixture.
Sunday's result was disappointing for Seba United and their coach Theodore Whitmore, especially after leading the country to two wins over El Salvador and Guatemala in friendly matches as interim coach of the national team. Today he will be keen to preside over an improved performance in front of a some times fickle home crowd.
"What happened against Arnett Gardens can be looked at as just one of those games and one that we have to put behind us. The good thing about where we are right now is that we still have two games in hand so we have to go out there and play for positive results," Whitmore told The Gleaner.
Must-win games
"These two games are must-win games if we are to regain the position that we were in before the loss to Arnett," he said.
A win for Seba United will possibly have to be achieved without the likes of inspirational veteran Daniel Ricketts and the emerging Mario Samuels who are both doubtful with injuries. Nonetheless, the former Jamaica midfield standout is confident that his charges can get the job done.
"We are playing at our home and these are the type of teams that we should be playing in order to show our class and we will be ready," Whitmore said. "We are motivated to play everyone and these are the types of games that determine championships," he said.
If his hope is to become reality then the likes of Seian McNish, Keniel Moodie, Anthowe Dawkins, Oliver Trail, Ricardo Geddes, Wilfred Smith, Delroy Ellis and Gavine Barrett will have to come good.
For Harbour View's Lenworth Hyde, the good thing after Sunday's loss is the fact that today's game has come so quickly.
Misfortunes
This, according to him, allows them to right the wrongs quickly. With that to happen, Hyde and his players will have to rise above the perceived disadvantage of playing away, as well as others.
"We have been ravaged by injuries and suspensions. Lovel Palmer got a red card in the last game and will be out, Gregg Taylor will be out with three yellow cards, Jermaine Hue will be out with three yellow cards, Christopher Harvey will be also out with three yellow cards and Kavin Bryan will be serving the second of a two-game suspension, while Kemeel Wolfe is still injured," Hyde said pointing to key members of his party.
Not one easily flustered, Hyde remains optimistic about his team's chances.
"Even with that being the case though we are still confident as we have players capable of stepping up. We are alright. We have a good squad.
"Richard Edwards is back and Kemar Petrekin could be called upon to play alongside Fabian Taylor up front.
"Additionally, there are people like Loxley Thomas, Rafique Thomas, Donald Stewart and Robert Scarlett who will be back. Keith Kelly could also make a contribution off the bench," he continued pointing to the depth of his squad.
