Opposition spokesman on Justice, A.J. Nicholson, is warning Prime Minister Bruce Golding that any attempt to prevent Governor-General Prof. Kenneth Hall from carrying out his constitutional responsibility in appointing a Solicitor General, as recommended by the Public Service Commission, will lead to a constitutional crisis.
Senator Nicholson, in a release yesterday, said he had taken note of the Prime Minister's comments in relation to the appointment of a new Solicitor General.
Mr. Golding told The Gleaner that he had "serious concerns" about the processes that were used to select Stephen Vasciannie to be the next Solicitor General.
However, Senator Nicholson cautioned that the Prime Minister's concerns "had better be able to withstand the most rigorous scrutiny and the test of time".
The Prime Minister told The Gleaner at a Commonwealth Heads of Government summit in Kampala, Uganda, on the weekend, that he has written the Opposition Leader on the matter. He said the Governor-General would be advised shortly on what action to take.
