Harbour View's Under-15 football team, winners the KSAFA/Shipping Industry Under-15 Tournament, was presented with the Winston Chung Fah Trophy on Friday, November 23, at an awards ceremony held in the Conference Room of the Shipping Association of Jamaica.
The local shipping industry, led by the SAJ, joined forces with the Kingston & St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) to support the Under-15 competition for the third consecutive year.
Joseph Lowe, managing committee member of the Shipping Association of Jamaica, noted that it was "with mixed emotions" that he brought greetings to the function only weeks after the sudden passing of David Hunt, coach of Meadhaven Football Club and administrator of KSAFA.
Mr. Lowe said, "Mr. Hunt was a dedicated and exemplary leader, coach and administrator in Jamaica's football fraternity, and his was a life of voluntarism and sacrifice for our nation's youth. By promoting discipline, self-confidence and a passion for excellence, he has made a lasting, positive impact on the lives of many of our young citizens and on our country as a whole."
Great success
KSAFA president, Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, thanked the sponsors from the local shipping industry on behalf of the participating Under-15 teams in Kingston and St. Andrew. He said that the tournament continued to be a great success and noted that the sponsorship included $500,000 in prize money, referees' fees, administrative costs, trophies and awards.
The winners of the Shipping Industry/KSAFA Under-15 Tournament received the trophy named for Winston Chung-Fah, who has dedicated his life to the development of local football, and $80,000 in first-prize money.
At the award ceremony Ashani Fairclough and Jamie Hyde of Harbour View were presented with most valuable Player (MVP) Awards, while Bull Bay FC took the prize for being the fair Play Team.
