THE EDITOR, Sir:
It is with a sense of complete frustration and utter helplessness that I am impelled to publicise the manner in which this project is being handled, and implemented. I speak on behalf of the residents of the town of Oracabessa in St. Mary and its environs. I am one of those residents.
I am advised and verily believe that this project is being controlled and directed by the National Works Agency. The Danish firm of Phil is doing the road works and another firm, Irish, I believe called Nicholas O'Dwyer and Son, is acting as consultants.
Sloppy work on roads
It is my opinion that the work in that area is being carried out in an inexcusably sloppy and haphazard manner, with absolutely no thought for the persons living there. The roads are dug up all over the place, there are trenches everywhere, access to homes is sometimes impeded, and mobility whether on foot, or by vehicle is by way of an obstacle course that is positively dangerous.
Further, I do not know if any account has been taken of the adverse environmental impact such a plan may have on Oracabessa Bay, with all the silt, debris, mud, and garbage that will accompany the rainwater into the sea and which would destroy its pristine state.
I am, etc.,
