NOTE-WORTHY: Distasteful
published: Tuesday | November 27, 2007

Distasteful

I am commenting on the picture in The Gleaner, recently, where both persons (dancers) were locked in such an embrace that it gave the impression that they were having sex. At one point, I was not sure if it was a man and a woman, while at other times it looked like two males. I am all for music, dance - any type of art form as long as it is done decently and in order.

We are living in a 'sexualised' society where everything is about sex. Of course sex is wonderful if done within the confines of marriage between one faithful man and one faithful woman. That was, and still is, God's requirement for sex. I found the pix distasteful, perverse, unclean - and it is not something I would want the society, especially young children and teenagers to be exposed to.

Minibus problem

I have a friend living in the United States who plans to move back to Jamaica one day.

In planning his future return, he decided to buy a minibus which someone can operate while he is away.

The problem is that having bought this new minibus four months ago he has not been able to get the road licence to operate it he has to be paying in excess of $140,000 a month for insurance on the vehicle.

When he contacted the Transport Authority, he was told that because of the change in government no road licenses are being issued until a committee has been formed to review the issuance of such licences.

This man is disappointed with the lack of urgency that is being shown, while he continues to spend all this money on a vehicle that is not generating any income. I do hope someone from the Government sees this letter and helps this man out.

First-rate drama

On Sunday, November 25, I attended at the Longville Park Community Centre and witnessed a most outstanding drama presentation by the group, Children First from Spanish Town, St. Catherine. The performers were first-rate. Their presentations dealt with the many negative issues impacting on our communities and offered various ways to turn these negatives into positives.

Those who were present were educated, informed, inspired and empowered. On behalf of the communities and on my own behalf, I want to commend Children First for a great performance and wish for them God's richest blessings.
