St Jude's celebrates 120 years
published: Saturday | October 27, 2007

Reid

The St. Jude's Anglican Church, Stony Hill, will be celebrating its 120th anniversary on St. Jude's Day, tomorrow.

In the year leading up to the anniversary, a number of events were held and the celebrations are scheduled to culminate with a Flower Festival today - the eve of St. Jude's Day - and a thanksgiving service tomorrow.

The Flower Festival will be officially opened at 4:00 p.m. by the Rt. Rev. Clive Ab-dullah, retired Bishop of the Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago, who served as Rector of St. Jude's from 1966 to 1970, and under whose tenure the first Flower Festival at St. Jude's was held.

Service

The thanksgiving service will take place tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. The celebrant will be the Rt. Rev Alfred Reid, Diocesan Bishop of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, who was also rector at St. Jude's between 1971 and 1978. Co-celebrants at the service will be the Rt. Rev. Abdullah and Achdeacon Leon Golding, rector of Kingston Parish Church and himself a former rector of St. Jude's who served from 1990 to 2002.

Members of the public are invited to the Flower Festival and to view the arrangements on display today from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be no charge for admission.
