With six teams already assured of their places in the inter-zone round of the 2007 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup, the battle for the other 18 spots will intensify this afternoon when the competition resumes with 14 games across five zones.

While Zone E contenders St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), currently on 15 points, will join zone leaders Munro College (19) in the inter-zone round with victory over the struggling Lacovia (7), their match will probably play second-fiddle to Zone H clash between second place Lennon (19) and third place Denbigh (18).

In the first round meeting between STETHS and Lacovia, the Kurt Brooks-coached STETHS team, whose blemishes this season have been 0-3 and 0-1 defeats to Munro, looked good in coming out 2-0 winners.

Today, with home advantage at their disposal, STETHS should win easily and move into the inter-zone.

Do-or-die situation

With Clarendon College - boasting a 100 per cent win record from seven games - looking a safe bet for one of the two inter-zone places from Zone H, today's clash between Lennon and Denbigh is really a do-or-die situation for the teams as defeat could seriously hamper their chances.

In their first meeting Lennon, which is sporting a fairly decent record of six wins, one draw and one defeat, came up 1-0 winner.

Repeating their first round success on the home ground of Denbigh, which have six wins and two defeats, could well take some doing.

Champions Glenmuir (13), which dropped their fourth point of the season in a 1-1 draw with group leader Garvey Maceo (17) on Saturday, should be gunning to consolidate second place in the group ahead of Old Harbour (12), which will face the might of the Garvey Maceo team on their home turf.

Much excitement

While they are unlikely to overtake Garvey Maceo for zonal honours, in terms of sheer quality, the Glenmuir team still looks potentially the best in the competition and should they hit the right groove the Jackie Walters-coached boys could see their impressive 31 goal totally jumping significantly.

In terms of hype, the Zone A super derby between leaders Cornwall College (15) and third place Herbert Morrison (8) - the second such clash in three days - should churn out much excitement as while Cornwall College will aim to pull within a point of the inter-zone, revenge and survival should be Herbert Morrison's primary focus.

In Zone K where Annotto Bay (24), Brimmervale (21) and Oracabessa (20) are locked in a mad scramble for the two inter-zone places, it should be all excitement as all three teams will battle 'soft' opponents.
