Jintao thanks Spencer for support
published: Sunday | October 14, 2007

WASHINGTON (CMC):

President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao has written to Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer thanking him for his country's support for the 'One China Policy'.

Hu said Spencer's position on the Taiwan issue demonstrates the support of his administration to China's "reunification and his commitment".

"I highly appreciate this position," Hu wrote in a letter to Spencer. "The Chinese government values China's friendship with Antigua and Barbuda and attaches great importance to developing relations with Antigua and Barbuda."

Hu also pointed out that his Government would continue to work with the Spencer administration "to further promote the growth of friendship and cooperation that currently exist," said a statement from the Antigua government.

Spencer has said that relations between both countries have "grown tremendously" since his administration assumed office.

"Since coming into office, Prime Minister Spencer has always made it clear that his government strongly believes that there is only one China, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the entire Chinese people as outlined by the United Nations," the statement said.
