Local limited overs matches hit by rain

RAIN across the island yesterday severely curtailed action in the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) Limited Overs competition. Only three matches were completed.

In the three matches played, Lucas defeated Trelawny by three wickets, St. Catherine CC whipped Westmoreland by 27 runs and Portland beat St. James by three wickets.

At Greenfield - in a match reduced to 40 Overs - Trelawny were blown away for 66 in 24 overs. Markland Grey took 3-21, Ransford Merchant 3-15 and Delroy Morgan 2-11.

In reply, Maurice Clarke 20 and Morgan 18 not out guided Lucas to 67-7 in 24.2 overs.

At Allan Rae Oval - in a match reduced to 39 overs, St. Catherine, batting first scored 197-4.

Junior Stewart led the way with 83 and was supported by Damion Bryce 82 not out. Ryan Maxon took 2-15.

Westmoreland, in reply were dismissed for 170. Nickoy Samuels made 67 and Cleveland Davidson, 28, against part-time wicketkeeper Dean Morgan (6-36).

At Jarrett Park - Portland, replying to St. James 113 in 32.4 overs, achieved victory at 114-7.

In St. James' innings, Vinroy Crooks made 52 against Garnet White 3-16 and Daren Grey 3-22.

All other matches, Jamaica Defence Force vs Melbourne at Camp; St. Ann vs St. Catherine CA at St. Ann Bauxite; Kingston vs St. Elizabeth at Sabina Park; Police vs Kensington at Elletson Road; Boys' Town vs Kingston & St. Andrew at Collie Smith Drive, were rained out.
