These are the ‘Days of Our Windies’
published: Saturday | July 21, 2007

Tym Glaser

NOW JUST where do we stand in this latest instalment of Days of Our Windies?

If you haven’t been paying attention (and who could blame you), here’s the latest developments in our very own regional soapie:

Wicked boss KG was about to get snuffed out – and he knew it – so he decided to jump before he was pushed.

However, dear viewer, as with all soap villains, he did not go quietly into the night. Nope, he took a final parting shot at fellow bad guy and arch-nemesis Dinram.

KG, in all his memo writing splendour, said Dinram should adjust his style of operation of the sinister organisation known as WIPA, grow up and be a good boy or (ominous drum roll, please) get out.

Final flourish

KG, as head of the equally nefarious WICB, also made one final flourish of the pen and signed his gaggle of cronies, and by extension the entire region, into an extension of sponsorship with a group known as Digicel.

This, of course, was a fine signing off point with the man the viewers love to hate with the same passion as a Tony DiMera because the start of his reign coincided with the first controversial Digicel deal.

A report into the original pact was compiled by a chap called Lucky (even soap writers can’t make up a better name than that) and two of his buddies whichridiculed the whole matter, and the wily new president swept it straight under the carpet and the matter was never uttered again in his mansion.

Now, you really have to stick with me here because this is where the plot gets tricky; Dinram, who has been a constant thorn in KG’s side and was no big fan of the first deal, cried foul – again.

This time, he says, WIPA was to be privy to any such deals but only heard about the agreement, which runs to 2012, after all was signed, sealed and delivered. This, he continued, was against what was written in an uneasy truce between the WICB and WIPA called an MoU.

However, everyone knows that in Soapland deals are made to be broken. What a silly character this Dinram is.

Anyway, it doesn’t end there, folks.

No, there are even more tricks and twists because Dinram, not happy with the departure of KG, also wants to off his right-hand man, Bruce.

Incompetent

Now that’s not our Bruce who wears green a lot and apparently has a licence because he calls himself ‘Driver’. Nope, this Bruce is from TeeTee and apparently has the right to speak for all and sundry – even if they don’t know it and he also had the temerity to call Dinram’s cronies “incompetent”.

Well, there may be truth there but it’s just not the done thing – it simply ain’t cricket, as they say.

Dinram says he can’t work with henchman Bruce so a real showdown is looming. It looks like the ‘Days of’ scriptwriters are set to take a leaf out of their Sopranos counterparts’ pages.

This could get real good; lots of hits, reprisals and clandestine meetings.

And finally, there’s the mystery character set to enter stage left, the new WICB boss, ‘The Hunter’.

We don’t know much about this guy yet but in a show full of villains, it’s a safe bet what the writers have in store because in ‘Day of our Windies’ there’s no place for good guys.
