Christiana crash claims one
published: Friday | June 22, 2007

Mandeville, Manchester:

Hansel Thompson, a farmer of Chudleigh district near Christiana in Manchester, was killed in a motor vehicle collision on the Shooters Hill main road, approximately 9:15 a.m. yesterday.

According to an eyewitnesss, the accident, which occurred opposite the Kirkvine Sports Club, happened when a Ford 9000 dump truck laden with paving material and headed towards Christiana got out of control after it tried to avoid slamming into a parked truck.

The truck then changed lanes where its front left wheel hit a car before hitting a Nissan station wagon in which Mr. Thompson, his wife and young son were travelling.

The front of the car was pinned between the truck's carriage and a guard rail.

Mr. Thompson had to be removed from the crumpled wreckage by members of the Mandeville Fire Brigade using the 'Jaws of Life' rescue tool.
