Myrie allowed to travel
published: Friday | June 22, 2007

Former People's National Party candidate for North West St. Elizabeth, Lloyd Myrie, who is charged with indecent assault and carnal abuse involving a 15-year-old, had his bail conditions varied Wednesday so he can travel abroad.

Attorney-at-law Bert Samuels, who is representing Myrie, told the court that Myrie needed to travel abroad for medical reasons.

The crown did not oppose the application for Myrie's travel documents to be returned to him.

Resident Magistrate Frank Williams granted the application and ordered Myrie to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magis-trate's Court on July 25.

Non-attendance at court

Mr. Samuels, in making the application, pointed out that the preliminary inquiry had to be put off on four occasions because the complainant was not attending court.

He said the court was informed on the last occasion that the girl had left the Witness Protection Programme.

Myrie is alleged to have committed the offences in 2006.
