Allep St. Mary:The district of Alepp better known as pigeon town, is on its way to receiving a well-needed facelift - a new road.
The much-anticipated road which will serve as replacement for a dilapidated track comes at a value of $32.8 million.
This money will be provided by the Jamaica Social Investment fund (JSIF) and a contribution of $1.7 million from the Aleppo Citizens' Association.
The signing and ground-breaking exercise took place in Aleppo district last Friday, and was attended by Junior Minister Richard Azan, Member of Parliament Harry Douglas, councillor for the Belfield division Levan Freeman, and a representative from JSIF, as well as members of the community.
Councillor Freeman told The Gleaner, "This venture is of benefit to the community and surrounding areas".
"This road serves directly three thousand persons," he added, while addressing the gathering at the signing.
Councillor Freeman implored the citizens of Aleppo to give strict supervision on the construction of their road to ensure its proper completion. The project is scheduled to end in four months.
