Rhodd announces plans to refurbish Portland stations
published: Wednesday | February 28, 2007

Rhodd

Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Dr. Donald Rhodd, says plans are under way to refurbish police stations at Buff Bay and Hope Bay in Portland.

Dr. Rhodd said that the work will be put to tender and refurbishing should start by the first quarter of the new financial year. He pointed out that extensive refurbishing work is now being done at the Port Antonio Police Station, while police stations at Manchioneal, Castle and San San were refurbished following damage done by Hurricane Ivan.

The State Minister reiterated that all police stations, buildings being used by the police, as well as rented facilities islandwide (more than 300 in total), are maintained on a regular basis under the ministry's Routine Maintenance Programme.

On the matter of vehicles for the parish of Portland, Dr. Rhodd said 15 are being assigned, with three in the garage. He added that the police hierarchy is in the process of assessing the vehicular needs of the parish.
