Barbara Gayle, Staff ReporterA man, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the multimillion-dollar lottery scam operating out of Montego Bay, appeared with four others in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
He is Kenley Stevens, 22, an entertainment coordinator, who was arrested and charged last week Thursday. Stevens is the former chairman of the West Central St. James People's National Party Youth Organisation, Region Six.Also appearing in court Monday were Shameika Headley, 21, Stephen Allen, Leroy Campbell, also called 'Sufferer' and Damion Marshall, all of Bogue Hill Village, Montego Bay.
Return to court on friday
Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey remanded the five accused to return to court on Friday. Stevens and Allen are being represented by attorney-at-law Linton Walters, while attorney-at-law Clive Mullings represents the other three accused. Bail applications will be made when they return to court.
It is being alleged that a list with the names of persons living in the United States was found at Stevens' home. It is further alleged that Stevens supplied the list to persons who called individuals overseas and told them they were winners in an international lottery, for the purpose of defrauding them.
Headley was allegedly found in possession of $1 million at her home and is also charged with unlawful possession of the money.Three other persons appeared in court last week in connection with the lottery scam and were remanded to return on Friday.
They are Jomo Bernard, 29, also called 'Brilliant', Cleopatra Bent, 31, and Shauna Ricketts, all of Bogue Hill Village, Montego Bay.
