LONDON (Reuters)Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane had a Sunday to remember when he scored two goals, set-up another and was then sent off in the first 36 minutes of his side's 4-1 home league win over Bolton Wanderers.
Keane fired the first goal after 11 minutes and Jermaine Jenas got the second on the rebound after 19 when a Keane shot was parried by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
The Ireland striker then dinked in the third in the 22nd minute as Spurs tore through their fifth-placed opponents.
Sent off
Keane's day took an abrupt downward turn after 35 minutes when he was sent off for handling an Ivan Campo effort on the goalline.
Keane claimed the ball struck his chest but the penalty was awarded, Gary Speed converting.
Bolton, however, were unable to take advantage and Spurs snatched a late fourth through Aaron Lennon to move to ninth on 39 points.
Blackburn are one place and two points behind them after on-loan Congolese striker Shabani Nonda scored twice in a 3-0 home win over Portsmouth. Nonda scored in the second minute, added a second in the 25th and Stephen Warnock settled it five minutes after the interval.
In the day's other game Wigan Athletic beat Newcastle United 1-0 with a 40th-minute free kick by Ryan Taylor two minutes after Newcastle's Nolberto Solano had a penalty saved by John Filan.
In Saturday's action, an 88th-minute goal by Cristiano Ronaldo earned Manchester United a 2-1 win at Fulham that took them nine points clear of Chelsea, who beat Arsenal 2-1 in the League Cup final yesterday.
Liverpool thumped Sheffield United 4-0 while Charlton Athletic beat fellow-strugglers West Ham United, also 4-0.
