THE EDITOR, Sir:

RECENTLY, THERE was a major protest in the city of Kingston about the distribution of condoms to minors. I myself am a minor and have been blessed with the God-given gift of understanding, but it is nearly impossible for me to understand or accept this.

How is giving condoms to minors going to help? We are here killing ourselves about protection, what about abstinence? One great philosopher once said "The Christian philosophy is a philosophy of self-denial, self-control and self-restraint. The satanic philosophy is a philosophy of "live as you please," "have what you want," "don't let anybody tell you what to do," and "it's your life, you have a right to live it." I would like to know if the latter is what we are teaching our children of today and our future of tomorrow. Are we teaching them to live as they please?

There is no better message than abstinence, and this is what we should be preaching. Moreover, we should be preaching Jesus Christ; the one who died for us; who suffered so we could have new life; and this does not include a life of fornication and adultery and people killing off themselves to get protection so they won't get AIDS.
