JOE THE TAXI MAN - Howto play Joe!
published: Monday | February 26, 2007

Welcome to our new series Joe the taxi man, every month we will bring you interesting tales from the lives of our city cab drivers. You never know what you will find out.

All human beings find themselves in sticky situations from time to time.

One cab driver I solicited the services of recently related a few of his. What makes his tales hilarious is that they all centred around him being 'Joe Grind'. It's not that he entirely liked being a Joe Grind, but he was just so good at it. "Me is a man enuh, if the girl man leave the yard 8 o'clock, mi inna him house by two past eight!" he said of his exploits. I found this a little disturbing but he pressed on. Being a taxi man, your timing has to be spot on. One day, however, he had less time than he thought.

"While me inna di house wid di lady, di man nuh come back," he exclaimed. By now, I was totally intrigued and he didn't disappoint.

"My boy start come inna di house. A inna di bathroom mi haffi go hide, star!" he remembered. Now apparently, he hadn't parked his vehicle anywhere near the house as the man wasn't suspicious about anything his woman might have been up to. Seeing that the owner for the yard was unaware, she kept him occupied.

"A when him lie down pon di bed, she start rub him down and thing you know. So a so mi get fi tief out!" he laughed.

JOE GRIND

While he can smile at his near miss, he did admit that he doesn't play Joe Grind much anymore.

"Mi have a chick and when she want go out, she want hold hand and hug up. She have har man enuh!" It's just not prudent to be seen in public with another man's girl.

"Suppose di three a wi buk up one day and him try beat me, mi haffi go mess him up because mi nah tek no lick," he reasoned.

As I reached my destination, I realised that being a Joe Grind has its ups and downs but it's only recommended for those smart enough to handle it.

'Suppose di three a wi buk up one day and him try beat me, mi haffi go mess him up because mi nah tek no lick,'
