Campion College and St. Andrew High girls are the 2007 bmobile badminton KO High schools champions respectively, this after victories at the University of Technology's (UTech) Auditorium on Saturday.

Campion defeated defending champions Calabar 3-0 to take the boy's title, and St. Andrew High recaptured the girl's title which they lost last year to Haile Selassie, with a 3-1 victory over Campion's girls.

The Campion boys, who finished third in last term's Eastern Schools League, had their toughest match in the quarter-final round against the DeCarteret College team which was spearheaded by Pan-Am junior gold medallist Gareth Henry, which stretched them in a tough five-match tie that could have gone either way.

Jamaica's junior representative, Kyle Wong Chew Onn, led the way for Campion as they got through that only to face another 3-2 result against Haile Selassie in the semi-finals, before blanking Calabar in the final.

Handicapped

Both Calabar and Haile Selassie's boys were somewhat handicapped as between them they had three players absent for disciplinary reasons.

St. Andrew High, with national junior champion and Pan-Am junior silver medallist Shenelle Peart in their ranks and with a strongly-balanced team, were pretty much in a class of their own.

Campion, with two national players in Alyssa Woon and Keri Wong Chew Onn, were only able to take a single match off them. The St. Andrew's girls had 3-0 shut-out wins over St. Hugh's in the semi-finals and Queen's in the quarter-finals.
