CALL IT 'Fun in the Sun' or whatever you like, but come Sunday in the middle of Williamsfield in Manchester the 25th staging of the High Mountain Coffee 10K and 5K road races will take place.
Race times are 2:00 p.m. (5K) and 3:30 p.m. (10K). Over the years, thousands of cheering supporters have lined the route along the Winston Jones Highway, through Kendal, down Shooters Hill and along Content to help motivate the athletes.
Biggest excitement
However, the biggest excitement comes when the runners approach the roundabout in Williamsfield - where they normally finish.
Further heat has been added to this year's races as, for the first time in local road racing history, the male and female winners will claim $100,000.
Also of interest, Jamaica's 'Queen of the Road', Natoya Goule, will be running her first 10K in her parish. Reigning 'King of the Road' Wainard Talbert, who has dominated road racing for the past four years but has never won the High Mountain 10K, will have to contend with Edmund Burke of Shore Athletics Club, New Jersey in the United States, who won last year's 10K in 31:52 minutes ahead of Talbert (32:23).
