Coach pleased with Harbour View's performance
published: Friday | October 13, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

HARBOUR VIEW'S impressive 3-1 win over Seba United in the Wray & Nephew National Premier League (NPL) at Jarrett Park on Wednesday night has left head coach Lenworth Hyde extremely pleased as it means the team has now extended its 100 per cent win record to four games.

"The discipline of the players and their willingness to work hard is what is carrying us through," said Hyde, a former top-flight midfielder. "We are not only winning games but we are scoring two and three goals per game, which is very good."

In a tactically sound display, Harbour View silenced the partisan Montego Bay crowd through goals from skipper Lovel Palmer, who also missed a penalty; and Gregg Taylor. Seba's lone goal came via the penalty spot through Wilfred Smith. "It is becoming increasingly frustrating as we continue to suffer from the absence of a quality striker," said Seba United's coach Jeffrey Maxwell. "We are playing very well as a unit and creating scoring opportunities but we are just not putting away the chances," he said.

With things running smoothly for his team, Hyde is now working hard to keep his players focussed in a bid to avoid last year's experience where they dominated the early stages of the competition only to be caught in the home-stretch by champions Waterhouse.

The right attitude

"We are playing with the right attitude and that is what I am hoping will make the difference this year," said Hyde. "We have to remain disciplined and focussed and the players understand that, and it is already reflecting in their approach to the games we have played."

However, for Maxwell, it is big scramble to get at least one potent striker and he is not looking around locally - he has his eyes set on the eastern Caribbean and North America.

"We have seen a striker in St. Vincent that we are taking a close look at, and we are also looking at a player in the MLS (believed to be Jeff Cunningham) who used to play for Seba," said Maxwell. "Until we get a striker with some amount of venom, I think we will continue to have problems getting goals."

In an action-packed first half, which saw Seba getting the better opportunities, Harbour View struck in the 41st minute when Palmer nodded in a Ricardo Smith cross. Harbour View made it 2-0 in the 51st minute when Palmer's cracking 30-yard free-kick crashed home past a poorly constructed wall.

Thirteen minute later, Palmer should have completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot but he was denied by a fine save by the goalkeeper.

Seba got on the scoresheet in the 67th minute when Smith, who was fouled just outside the goal area, got up and converted from the spot, making the score 2-1.

However, Harbour View regained their two-goal advantage in the 70th minute when Taylor traded elegant passes with Kevin Wollery before blasting home, making the final score 3-1.
