THE JAMAICA Golf Association (JGA) will host its annual Classic tournament at the Superclubs Golf Club in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, this weekend. The 36-hole competition is a JGA qualifying tournament for the year ending March 31, 2007.

The event promises to be an exciting one as several of the island's top golfers will be participating, including Radcliff Knibbs, Mark Newnham, Xavier Rose, Gifford Wilmot and Damion Spencer.

Among the top females down to take part are veteran Maggie Lyn, Leiza Blakeley and teenager Vittoria Marley. The top contenders entered in other categories include Lincoln Williams and Larry Bailey in the men's seniors, Dennis Atkinson and Hansel Williams in the super seniors, and Yvonne Munn and Pearl Phipps in the ladies' seniors.

The competition tees off tomorrow with medal play for the low handicap players in both the male and female categories. Handicaps higher than 10 will play Stableford.

The competition continues on Sunday and will be followed by the prize-giving ceremony.
