WESTERN BUREAU;
Boys' Town's bid to record their first win of the 2006-07 Wray and Nephew National Pre-mier League season was thwarted by Reno yesterday at the Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland as they had to settle for 2-2 draw.
Boys' Town, who have drawn all four games they have played this season and are now on four points, scored through Asrick Samuels and George Vernal, while Reno, who moved up to seven points, got both goals from Garry McIntosh.
"We had a lot of indiscipline out there today as even we had the lead, the players refused to follow the instructions from the bench," said Andrew Pryce, the coach of the Boys' Town team. "The good thing is that we managed to remain unbeaten."
Fiercely contested
In what was a fiercely contested first half, both teams created several good opportunities, but faulty finishing prevented them from getting on the scoresheet. The half ended 0-0.
In the second half, Boys' Town took the lead in the 51st minute. A speculative cross by Samuels had goalkeeper Dwayne Kerr strug-gling desperately before the ball fell behind him into the goal, making the score 1-0.
Reno pulled level in the 58th minute when McIntosh, won possession about 30 metres from goal, dribbled two paces and cracked a scorching shot which flashed past goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie, making the score 1-1.
Boys' Town regained the lead immediately upon the restart as the ball was relayed to Vernal who fired a looping lob from inside his own half towards the goal.
To the surprise and disbelief of the home crowd, the ball sailed over the head of goalkeeper Kerr and landed in the goal, making the score 2-1.
However, with time running out, Reno found a second equaliser in the 80th minute. A superb cross from substitute Ricardo Scott found McIntosh racing in and his glancing header gave the goalkeeper no chance, making the final score 2-2.
"The two soft goals we gave cost us dearly, but at least we got a share of the points," said Reno's coach, Wendell Downswell. "With seven points, I think we are still on course to make it to the first mid-season final."
