'Step Up' to the latest teen flick
published: Sunday | September 10, 2006

A scene from 'Step Up' with Tyler Gage and Nora Clark. - Contributed

It follows the dance-based teen movie formula to a 't', but like those that preceded it, Step Up will still do well as it has that feel-good element that makes your body tingle with joy each time the lead characters nail their dance moves.

Troubled teen and street dancer Tyler Gage, played by the hunky Channing Tatum, ends up in ballet class with prissy art student Nora Clark, played by Jenna Dewan, and from then on you can map out the entire plot using the teen movie paradigm that so many others followed before. He will show her his street moves and she show her ballet moves, they dance together, fall in love, and somewhere along the way someone will be shot.

Tight choreography

However, if you appreciate creative dance moves packaged in tight choreography, Step Up is your box office choice. It was disappointing however, that Sean Paul's lead single on the soundtrack did not feature more prominently in the film, as advertising would make it seem. Notably, the dance costumes worn by leading lady Nora were very fashionable.
