Underneath it all

Jheanelle Nairne, winner of the Jamaica Fashion Model title at the Caribbean Model Search 2006 Finale, held at the Hilton Kingston hotel, Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston, on Sunday, September 3. - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Dozens of hopefuls strutted their stuff last Sunday at the Pulse bmobile model search at the Hilton Kingston hotel. Their aim was to impress the judges for their chance at stardom.

In the audience they looked at the faces and heard the names of young women who were just like them a few years ago. Now Jaunel McKenzie, Carla Campbell and Nadine Willis are in a world that these hopefuls wanted so much of.

Disappointment

But at the end of the night only one person won and the others got a taste of disappointment. 'Male face of Jamaica' went to Annoman Singh, Jheanelle Nairne 'Fashion Face' and Theresa Jameson 'Miss Jamaica Petite'.

Speaking with The Sunday Gleaner, international model sensation Nadine Wills noted that underneath all the make-up, lights and couture fashion the modelling industry is very hard work.

She encouraged them to keep up their confidence and to respect their agents as they always have their best interest at heart. "I knew it wasn't all glitz and glamour, I had to work hard. If it's something you want you have to work hard."
