Body of missing policeman recovered
published: Sunday | September 10, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

Spanish Town:

The body of missing policeman Constable Richard Taylor, 31, was recovered about 12 o'clock yesterday from a hole near the Worthy Park Sugar Estate in St. Catherine. The body, which had what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head, was retrieved with the assistance of the fire services.

Police at the Brown's Hall station said they were directed to the spot by a telephone caller at about 9:00 a.m. yesterday. Mr. Taylors' body was wrapped with rope and an engine block attached to the body. However, it miraculously floated up to the surface of the water.

Went to visit friends

The discovery ended a week-long search for the lawman who last Monday went missing in the Point Hill area where he went to visit friends.

The motor car he drove was recovered by the police on Tuesday with what appeared to be bloodstains. Constable Taylor's licensed firearm and his service pistol were also recovered by the authorities.

It is the second time this year that a lawman attached to the Special Anti-Crime Task Force has been killed in the St. Catherine North division.

In March, the body of Constable Clayton Salmon was retrieved with the assistance of the fire services from an abandoned well in the March Pen Road area of Spanish Town after he was killed by gunmen.
