Masaniello to rebound
published: Friday | September 8, 2006

With the Pick-9 offering a $1.1 million carryover at Caymanas Park tomorrow, a payout of close to $2 million looks a real possibility.

The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11; the Super-6 from six to 11. We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a straight five race for three-year-olds (non winners of three) to be contested by 11 starters.

Despite the presence of the recent course winner LEGEND OF SCARFACE and others such as PRINCESS SUE and the American bred four-year-old debutante SEE DA BREEZE, the race will more than likely come down to a straight fight between MASANIELLO under champion jockey Brian Harding and TWENTY NINE with title-chasing jockey Trevor Simpson up.

Both have already won over the straight five course and they report well prepared. But the Anthony 'Baba' Nunes-trained MASANIELLO has looked that much sharper in his preparation, galloping five furlongs out of the gate in 59.4 on Monday morning behind a half mile split of 46.1.

JACK SPARROW, who chased home out-of-class SEATTLE'S GIRL in the recent Nigel B. Nunes Memorial Cup (open allowance) over the circular nine course, is poised to go one better over same in the eighth race for the Calvin O'Sullivan Memorial Cup. 'Horse of the Year' MIRACLE MAN, the Asafa Powell of local racing, cannot be opposed in the 10th for the 'Bob' Mayall Memorial Cup, while it should be down in class SIR CHARLES over OUTSWINGER and TIGERINTHEWOODS in the closing over 1200 metres for $160,000 claimers.
