Pathologists being barred
published: Friday | September 8, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Qualified Jamaican pathologists are being prevented from working at the Cornwall Regional Hospital. They prefer to hire pathologists from the European Union, especially Bulgaria.

Dr. Mullings and I were reluctantly invited for interview last May, only to be told that they were still expecting applications from outside the country.

Two points of concern here: (1) The post was not even advertised in local newspapers, as should be the case. (2) You only look outside if there are no suitably qualified local candidates.

Something should be done about this anomaly.

I am, etc.,

Dr. ADEMOLA ODUNFA
