Security tight for Sunday's Go-Kart Extravaganza
published: Friday | August 25, 2006

Senior Superintendent Rosie McDonald-Barker gave the assurance yesterday that the police will be out in numbers to monitor Sunday's Red Bull Go-Kart Extra-vaganza to be held in New Kingston.

"We will be there to ensure that everything goes well," SSP McDonald-Barker told The Gleaner yesterday. She said the police and the organisers have had several meetings, since last week, to discuss security arrangements.

In the meantime, the National Works Agency yesterday paved the strip of roadway on Knutsford Boulevard, between Trafalgar Road and Trinidad Terrace, to facilitate the paratroopers, stunt bikers and go-karters who will take part in Sunday's event.

Trial session

"Tuesday morning they had a trial session and the police were there," the senior officer said.

The Go-Kart Extravaganza is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. and end about 5:30 p.m.

During the event, sections of Knutsford Boulevard between Barbados Avenue and Trafalgar Road will be closed to vehicular traffic.
