Last weekend turned out to be very busy on the social calendar and The Gleaner popped in to check out a few events.

The stylish came out to party and celebrate at the Terra Nova Hotel.

Politician James Robertson celebrated his 40th with friends and family at the Stable Yard, in St. Catherine. That was a party; by midnight everyone was soaked with sweat on the dance floor. There was good company, great vibes and even better food.

Friday evening saw contestants in the first Miss Global International competition meeting and greeting at Kenny Benjamin's Guardsman headquarters, along Old Hope Road.

Member of Parliament, Derrick Smith held a fund-raiser on the lawns of his home. His always charming wife put out her usual excellent fare and everyone had only two subjects on their mind - politics green and politics orange!

Caribbean Fashion Week activities dominated with far too many breaks between shows. The general feeling is that the rest of the region is outshining local designers, but the event continues to be popular.

Elsewhere, National Commercial Bank Chairman Michael Lee Chin continues to gain recognition for his achievements. He was on the cover of the first edition of Canada's new magazine, The Canadian Immigrant. The article titled: 'Against All Odds' is written by Izabela Jaroszynski.
